ARE YOU THINKING OF GETTING A NEW PUPPY OR ADULT DOG OR DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT BEHAVIOR OR PROBLEMS WITH YOUR CURRENT PUPPY OR ADULT DOG?
The solution may be as simple as a phone call or you may need a visit from our behaviorists. It's important to start out on the right tract wether with a puppy or an adult dog, one dog or multiple dogs. Talking to a behaviorist prior to bringing a new addition into the house can be the difference between having an accepted member of the family or having a household in constant turmoil. Give us a call regarding any questions you may have.
VACCINATIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR CANINE INFLUENZA!
The canine influenza virus affects dogs only and causes respiratory illness. This is a relatively new virus and dogs have no natural immunity to it. It is highly contagious and unless a dog has already had the illness and recovered, every dog exposed to the virus will become infected. Even though all dogs are susceptible to the infection, about 80% of the infected dogs will show signs of the virus. The other 20% may not show signs of the disease but can still spread the virus to other dogs. The virus is spread via direct contact, air and contaminated surfaces (fur, hands, clothing).
The initial vaccination is 2 doses, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Annual vaccinations are needed. The first vaccination gives about 40% protection so if your dog is at risk(see below for risk suggestions) vaccinate as soon as possible.
You are the ultimate judge as far as your dog’s exposure to other dogs but we are definitely recommending vaccinations for dogs that: Board(some kennels are now requiring it), are groomed, go to doggie daycare, training classes, or have other regular exposure to different dog populations.
Please call us if you have any questions regarding canine influenza.
CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS FOR YOUR PET NOW OFFERED
We are pleased to announce the association with Dr. Lorra Nuzum DC to bring chiropractic services for your pet. Dr. Nuzum will be using the VOM technique which was developed by a veterinarian orthopedist over 20 years ago to gently realign the spine and extremities of the animal. It has been used on thousands of pets with great success to reduce their pain levels and disabilities. The subluxations are easily found and corrected by using a adjusting instrument with little or no discomfort to the pet. The beauty of this technique and instrument is that it can not harm your pet, as there is no twisting involved. Examples of conditions that could benefit from an adjustment are: lameness, joint pain, back and neck pain, digestive disorders, performance and behavioral problems plus many more.
After the pet is adjusted you may see an immediate response or it may take several weeks depending on the severity of the case. A series of adjustments is usually needed to reach a point where the subluxation pattern is corrected. Maintenance checks may be recommended every 4 to 6 months to watch for reoccurrence. Cats being very flexible animals usually respond faster than dogs do.
Please talk to us for more information or visit the web-site WellAdjustedAnimals.com We will be happy to set up an appointment for your pet.

DO YOU RECOGNIZE YOUR PET'S SIGNS OF PAIN?
Many times owners tell us that their pet is slowing down assuming that it is because they are aging. Many owners do not realize that what they are seeing may be because the pet is in pain because of arthritis. Arthritis can be one pain causing factor, but injury or over-activity can also cause "slowing down" because of the discomfort.
What are signs that I should look for that could indicate that my dog is in pain?
*Diminished appetite
*Frequent or sudden fatigue
*Appearance of a limp
*Stiffness when standing up
*Difficulty walking up or down stairs
*Less frequent jumping or running or Increased time spent lying around
*Slower movement in cold weather
*Discomfort when joints are touched.
There are several pain-controlling options such as weight management, nutrition counseling and water-based exercise along with the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs).
With the medicines available today there are many ways to assure that your pet does not live in discomfort. A few of the medications are Dasequin, MSM (a natural anti-inflammatory & analgesic), and Deramaxx(NSAIDs).
Call us if we can help you decide which type of pain management is bust for your pet and your family's lifestyle.
